Warrnambool, on the south-west coast of Victoria is at the western end of the Great Ocean Road. The name was taken from the Aboriginal name for a local volcanic hill.

The coastline near the city is known as the "shipwreck coast" due to the number of ships it claimed during the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries.
