Dubbo is a city in central New South Wales, situated on the Macquarie River approximately 400 kilometres north-west of Sydney. The city was founded in 1841 and gained city status in 1966.
In terms of industry Dubbo is the heart of the surrounding farming areas, dealing in meat, wheat, fruit and vegetables and timber.
Dubbo is also home to the Western Plains Zoo, a safari-like reserve which runs breeding programmes for endangered species of animals including the white rhinocerus.
