Orange, 250km west of Sydney is a provincial city located on the Mitchell Highway.
Orange started as a convict settlement in 1822 called "Blackman's Swamp", and was re-named Orange in 1846. In 1851 the first discovery of gold in Australia was made in nearby Ophir, which led to the Ausralian Gold Rush and the establishment of Orange as a major trade centre of the time.
Today industry revolves around farming, education, health services and mining. Orange is well known for being a dominant producer of many types of fruit.
