Townsville is located in the tropics on Queensland's east coast, approximately 1,300km north of Brisbane and 350km south of Cairns.
During World War II Townsville was home to the USA's largest overseas air base and played a major part in the war effort. Many secret bunkers and tunnels still exist in the area.
