Canberra is the capital of Australia and it's largest inland city. In 1913 the capital was founded in an area between Sydney and Melbourne as a compromise between the two. The state of the Australian Capital Territory was also founded at this time surrounding Canberra on land that was previously part of New South Wales.
Canberra is a purpose-built planned city designed by American architect Walter Burley Griffin to house the Australian federal government. The city hosts Parliament House, the High Court of Australia and many other government departments.
Unsurprisingly, the city's main industry is government administration and defence. Other notable industry includes property services and construction.
Canberra is also home to many national monuments and museums, including the National Portrait Gallery, the Australian War Museum, the National Museum of Australia, the National Library of Australia and the Royal Australian Mint.
